The teacher speaks.
"The best way to figure out if its a noun or an adjective it to ask yourself if you can be that, or if you can have that. For example. Can I be a fever? No. But you can have a fever, therefore a fever is a noun. Can you be pain?"
The rest of the lesson blurs in my ears. Yes, you can be pain. I know she was going to say "No, its a noun," but I also know shes wrong. My personal experiencs, my life has taught me that I can be pain. When there is so much of it that you cannot feel anything else, when thoughts of it take over any other things on your mind, when something bad happens-after you think things cant get any worse-and its doesnt bring you down further, because youre already as far down as down goes, then you are pain.
